In the Know - The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh has partnered with retail clothing chain, American Eagle Outfitters, to "beam" individuals with disabilities into their stores through an app which connects to a tablet set up on a four-wheeled stand in store.
Connected through an iPad, Satchel - a 20-year-old woman with special needs - was able to be greeted in real time by a sales clerk at an American Eagle Outfitters store. With tablet in hand, she was able to direct the four-wheeled stand to browse the store's aisles.
Through the Beam Smart Presence System, the sales team were able to help Satchel choose the clothing she wanted, and supply their expertise to provide the full retail experience without her ever having to leave her seat.
