Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Be at least 18 years of age.

Demonstrate the ability to read and write adequately to complete required forms
and reports and to follow written directions.

Have successfully completed the training requirements per DDARS Provider
Standards.

Be in adequate physical health to perform required tasks.

Be free from communicable disease, with a negative TB test or chest x-ray.

Have an interest in and empathy for persons with developmental disabilities.

Criminal background check shows no history of the following:
          - Abuse or fraud in any setting.
          - Substantial and/or repeated violations in the care of disabled persons.
          - Conviction of a crime related to the disabled population.
          - Conviction of a violent crime.
          - Substantial and/or repeated violations in the operation of a residential or
             health care facility.

Possess interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with individuals.

Have successfully completed agency orientation per DDARS Provider Standards.

Training will be done with the client and with a Qualified Mental Retardation Professional (QMRP). Other members of the team such as another staff member or a Behavior Consultant may also assist with training.

Your Team Manager (QMRP) will not allow you to work with the client alone until you are 100% confident that you are able to do so.

Ongoing training will also be provided such as CPR, first aid, and client-specific needs.
