State of Indiana Guiding Change

The State of Indiana has a fiscal climate that demands change to traditional service models.

We can no longer provide support to individuals on a daily basis with one staff person working in isolation with a person as the model of service for a given budget.

Change will support resources that gain benefit, advantage, or profit by developing programs that allow for natural social interactions, volunteering, and employment.

What Does This Mean For You?

The change will support resourcefullness via the redesign to:

  • Use only what you need.

  • Look to work - from paid employment to volunteering.

  • Realize the natural gifts each person possesses.

  • Shift the power to identify what works for people and to provide it, as well as to identify what does NOT work and change it.

  • Expand a given budget to a model that increases hours of paid support and decreases time tracking activities.
Next Steps:

Set up an interview by calling 317.813.1780. Ask for Lucy.

Discuss with your waiver case manager how to divert funding from your current mix of services.

Complete the Goal Discovery process.

Get excited to develop social relationships with peers and have a productive day!

Testimonial

"OPG is an organization filled with dedicated, talented people. It definitely helps bridge the gap in society between people with disabilities and the general populations."

"The On The Go program at OPG has offered our son the ability to make friends in a social setting while giving him life skills that are so important for his continued growth. The OPG associates have been absolutely wonderful to work with and we feel blessed that we have them involved in our son’s life. Thank you so much for all that you do!"

Meet Hodgepod

HodgepodHello, we’re Hodgepod, one of the On the Go pods at OPG. Some of our goals as a pod are practicing self-advocacy, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, practicing fitness, volunteering, and researching and presenting new activities to the group. We like cooking and working at the YMCA. We also like trying new kinds of experiments, like building a paper mache volcano. Our favorite thing about being in a pod is being with a group and not having to do everything alone. It is nice to be able to get out of the house and do things with friends. We also like that we are able to learn how to cook and to try new things. Our advice about pods is that the idea of a pod is sometimes scary for people, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a lot of fun.
